How we miss you, O Godfather of Punk. If we were in NYC tonight we'd surely be attending the gala 9th Annual Joey Ramone Birthday Party event at the Fillmore.
At least we can offer Joey's fans 20% off all the designs he wore. Like this one.
Just head over to the Joey Ramone page and pick out your faves -- and don't forget to enter the coupon code NOTJOEY when you check out. The sale ends 5/31, so hey ho, let's go.
That's not much of a headline, is it? But then again, who has time to ruminate on clever headers when there's so much stuff going on?
What stuff, you ask? Well, let's start with the L.A. Times Magazine including our Iggy Pop I Wiped Out the 60's in its charming "50 T-Shirts: Wear it out loud" spread:
We're number 29, in case you hadn't noticed.
Cool, right? And then there's the brilliant Michael J. Fox, in a role we predict will earn him an Emmy, on the dark and riveting FX series Rescue Me:
Yep -- he's wearing WF's John Lennon Working Class Hero tee. We've never been more proud, though we hope to find you a better photo of Michael (as the troubled, charming, wheelchair-bound Dwight) very soon.
OK, enough blowing of our horn (for the moment, at least). As you're probably aware, Joey Ramone's birthday falls on May 19, and we're celebrating one of the founding fathers of punk (and, let's face it, one of the patron saints of fun) by offering 20% off every single design he wore. So head on over to the Joey Ramone page, pick out some tees and be sure to use the coupon code NOTJOEY when you check out.
P.S. You ARE following us on Twitter, right? Because we've been doing some Twitter-only deals, and you don't want to miss out on those.
If you've been admiring the wardrobe of Brendan (Reid Scott) on the TBS comedy series My Boys, well, no wonder: the guy's a walking monument to the allure and variety of WF tees.
In the array above, you can see him pictured in our Johnny Ramone Chatterbox tee, Frank Zappa Rental and Joey Ramone Capitol Theatre. TBS has even provided a helpful gallery of Brendan's shirts, with commentary far wittier than anything we could generate here; if you peruse it, you'll also see this TV hunk in our Gram Parsons Flying Burrito Bros. shirt, Frank Zappa Radio Clyde and more.
Frankly, we couldn't ask for a more appealing model. But we like to think these shirts can make anyone look like a sitcom hottie. Slip one on and you'll see.
L.A. singer-songwriter Eleni Mandell has been making compelling music for some time, but it does seem the world is beginning to catch up with her adventurous musical sensibility.
Possessing a voice that can be impossibly silky or forbiddingly smoky, depending on the melodic demands of her beguiling songs, she saunters into new musical territory on her new album, Artificial Fire.
Though she's a million miles from the transparent confessional style of most L.A. troubadours, and adept at telling stories from multiple points of view, she does achieve a new kind of intimacy here, especially on tunes like "It Wasn't the Time (It Was the Color)."
But what's bound to catch listeners' ears, at least on first spin, is her musical range; Fire includes jagged guitar-rock, winsome chamber-folk and even rollicking power pop. She's assisted in this by her solid band (guitarist Jeremy Drake, bassist Ryan Feves and drummer Kevin Fitzgerald) as well as such reliable musos as X drummer (and superb vibes man) D.J. Bonebrake, co-producer Dave Trumfio, and singer Inara George, one of Eleni's two partners in the foxy side project The Living Sisters.
You'll certainly want to catch her live, so go here to scrutinize her upcoming tour dates.
Since we love the voodoo that she does, we're psyched to see her doing it in WF's Joey Ramone Capitol Theatre and Joan Jett Peacock tees. And if you attend her shows, we're told, you might well spot one or more of her bandmates in Worn Free attire as well.
Who says the rough economy has to hinder you from acquiring sexy new clothing just in time for the steamiest holiday?
WF has partnered with InvisibleLimb.net for a fabulous Valentine's Day giveaway -- enter and you could win a Worn Free shirt of your choosing, including such exciting new designs as Rod Stewart "F--- Art Let's Rock 'n' Roll," Lamborghini and Scot Lion and repros of tees worn by Chris Stein, Joe Strummer, Jeff Buckley, Glenn Tilbrook and Kurt Cobain. Not to mention WF classics worn by John Lennon, Frank Zappa, Joey Ramone, Iggy Pop, Debbie Harry, Joan Jett, et al.
How does it work? Let's ask the Limb folks:
To enter the giveaway, simply send an e-mail to richard@invisiblelimb.net with the subject “Worn Free Giveaway” and a short description of your most rock and roll moment/story. Winners will be chosen on February 13th!
That's right, people -- Feb. 13. So get to writin'. What is your most rock and roll moment?
Have you packed your amp with explosives just before the end of a gig? Did you hurl a TV out a hotel window, hoping it would drop straight into the pool? Have you corraled seven groupies into a bathroom stall, for Guinness Book of Records purposes? Have you replaced your hospital IV with Jack Daniels while hitting on the nurse?
Let's see what you've got. And it had better be rock 'n' roll.
Oh, dear. That's rather a tacky headline. But hey, you think it's easy being bloggishly clever day in and day out? Why don't you come over here and try it, then? No, wait. We didn't mean it. Please don't come over here. We love this job.
What we really want to see is this: One of our highly covetable tees was spotted on WWE superstar Edge (see below), and several of our hottest designs are on sale for a limited time at the outrageous power-slam price of $30.
First, here's Edge, rocking our Joey Ramone Punk Magazine shirt on the occasion of a tense bout (known in the trade, we're fairly certain, as a "smackdown") with fellow combatant Matt Hardy.
And speaking of wrestling, we know you're grappling with an economy that's got your wallet in a hammerlock, so we're going to help you leap off the ropes and land squarely on this recession's chest with $30 deals on the following mega-hot designs:
Yep, you can obtain Debbie Harry "Punk" (modeled here by the ravishing Naomi Campbell); I'm Not Johnny Ramone (as seen on the delicious Eva Mendes); John Lennon Working Class Hero (thank you, Marlon Wayans); John Lennon You Are Here (pictured on the comely torso of Jaime King); Debbie Harry Camp Funtime (worn freely by the captivating Mischa Barton) and Lester Bangs Freedom or Death (as demonstrated by the reliably demonstrative Kevin Dillon, AKA Johnny Drama, on Entourage) -- all for a mere 30 clams.
So what are you waiting for, people? Wrestle out that credit card and let's make this happen.
Regular Lost viewers -- and you can count us among those alternately riveted and puzzled hordes -- received a shock on a recent episode when (spoiler alert, if you're planning to catch the season on DVD or just have a TiVo backlog) the character of Alex Rousseau was summarily terminated.
Alex, rebellious and lovestruck daughter of the enigmatic quasi-villain Ben Linus, was played by the radiantly gorgeous Tania Raymonde, seen here making Worn Free's Joey Ramone Punk shirt look incredibly glamorous.
Tania first caught our eye years ago, playing the precocious (if obnoxious) Cynthia Sanders on Malcolm in the MIddle. Though her beauty was evident, the adolescent actress primarily showed a fierce presence, a strong aptitude for comedy, and a striking ability to temper her character's pain-in-the-butt qualities with aching vulnerability. We knew she was bound for bigger things. By the time she appeared on Lost, she'd grown so coltishly exquisite that it took us a moment to connect her with the gawky Cynthia.
Now that her character's gone to the great island in the sky, she's begun to expand her film work. We look forward to her breakout role.
Yes. Way.
That's Norwegian matinee idol Trond Espen Seim (on the left) as the title character in the thriller Varg Veum: Falne Engler. He's flanked by Scandinavian hottie Pia Tjelta, but you probably knew that -- just as you were probably aware that he's rocking Worn Free's Joey Ramone Capitol Theatre tee.
Varg Veum, for the handful of you who aren't intimately familiar with him, is the Bergen-based detective in a series of policiers penned by Gunnar Staalesen. The mystery of why this Viking-descended cop would have such a rock 'n' roll sense of style in this filmic adaptation remains unsolved; fortunately, the flick is probably screening at your local multiplex.
What? It isn't? Hmmm. Well, you can read about it here.
Thanks to Karianne for sending us this photo.
Here's something that might give you some Norwegian wood: Free shipping on Worn Free tees (for a limited time). Set sail for WornFree.com now.
To celebrate the redesign of WornFree.com, we're offering free shipping on all shirts.
Now, a few caveats:
- The free shipping won't last long, so don't dawdle. We hate it when you dawdle.
- You'll still be responsible for any taxes or customs duties your home country (and where do you live, anyway?) sees fit to impose on the privilege of having spectacularly stylish and comfortable couture delivered to your doorstep.
- Clicking on Mischa Barton's picture will not result in Mischa Barton being sent to your home. How many times must we go over this?
OK, we've sent the attorneys packing. Back to the good stuff.
Not only is the new site a bit easier to use, but it showcases several of our newer designs, including the dazzling suite of Queen tour tees (for the polymorphously perverse rock animal in your life), the dashing Ian Dury Taxi, Blockheads and Antigua tees (a treasure for fans of witty punk/new-wave), the saucy Jeff Beck "Oh Yeah" and On the Road Again shirts (manna for guitar freaks), the audaciously erotic Alan Aldridge London (Smile) shirt and the charming Willie Hall Hollywood T-shirt (for classic-soul aficionados and Tinseltown devotees alike).
Of course, you'll be able to find all your favorite John Lennon, Frank Zappa, Iggy Pop, Debbie Harry, Joan Jett, Johnny and Joey Ramone, Gram Parsons, Ian Hunter, Mick Ronson, Steve Marriott, John Van Hamersveld and other tees as well.
And did we mention the free shipping? OK, just checking.
The lads known as Kaiser Chiefs are the dapper, internationally beloved musical ambassadors of Worn Free attire. This time it's drummer Nick Hodgson's turn to act as spokesmodel; in this charming shot, he's proudly displaying our Joey Ramone "Wheels" tee -- a testimony, no doubt, to the Chiefs' tireless touring, as well as the endless allure of skateboards for tousle-haired young men.
The band will be playing a slew of American dates in September before rolling on back to Europe; check out their MySpace page for details, and add the band as a friend (if you haven't already). Tell them the shirtblog sent ya.
