OK, that's a perfectly wretched title. But you know how sometimes you're star-struck early on in life and the feeling never quite goes away? Well, Evan Dando had that effect on us. He wasn't properly celebrated during the peak of his success (with his wonderful band, The Lemonheads, and as a solo artist) partly because of a lot of tabloid stuff surrounding his admittedly hard-living ways but also -- let's be clear -- because suckers envied his talent. The guy was and is just a slammin' songwriter and a really soulful singer. Listen to "It's a Shame About Ray" or "My Drug Buddy" and tell us you don't wish you'd written 'em yourself.
So seeing ol' Evan looking pretty much as good as he ever did, pouring it all out onstage with the Lemonheads and attired in our Gram Parsons Flying Burrito Bros shirt? Pure poetry, especially given the man's avowed fondness for GP and kindred flair for twangy tunefulness. But also because he seems to have pulled himself out of the very abyss that Gram couldn't escape.
The Lemonheads have a new, self-titled disc out; they'll be touring with The Jesus & Mary Chain, and you can catch them at Coachella, among other upcoming mass gatherings.
If you're heading off to Coachella, by all means drop by and say hello – we'll be at the Virgin Megastore tent, where artists like The Fratellis (have you heard Costello Music? It's mad good), Lily Allen, Kaiser Chiefs, Stephen Marley, Air, Silversun Pickups, Amy Winehouse, Fountains of Wayne, Regina Spektor, DJ Shadow, Ozomatli, The Rapture, Brazilian Girls, Ghostface Killah and loads more will be doing signings. What else do these extremely gifted but very diverse musical performers have in common? They'll all be receiving Worn Free shirts as tokens of our fanboy esteem. They used to say that only mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the noonday sun, but with this kind of lineup, you'd be mad not to go. So we'll see you in the desert – remember to bring water, sunscreen and your mercifully cool Worn Free attire. The hot sex is up to you.
