Viva Zapata
Jonneine Zapata looks comparatively demure -- albeit typically fetching -- in our Jim Fitzpatrick Chinatown shirt, but don't be fooled. This L.A. singer-songwriter is highly dangerous, a combustible siren whose raw performances pack so much sex and danger that audiences are routinely left drained and irrevocably changed.
What's even more impressive is that she accomplishes this with nothing more than her voice and the accompaniment of a single guitarist.
While foremothers like Patti Smith and PJ Harvey come to mind, there really isn't anyone quite like her, as the video below will plainly attest.
You may have heard her song "Crazy" on the Lifetime series Side Order of Life in August, or seen her open for the Raconteurs at the Wiltern Theatre earlier in the summer (Wind-up artist Stefy, meanwhile, has covered her song "Lucky Girl"). Jonneine is finishing up her album and expects to return to the stage by year's end. Don't miss her.
